No. 1, the founding edition · The Marble Edit

The Bound

A bound figure with its head thrown back, from the toe to the collar.

Priced at your fitting

The Marble Edit. One pair, painted once

A figure with its hands bound and its head thrown back, drawn along the length of the vamp so the body follows the line of the foot. The second shoe of the pair carries a winged head at the heel, with a crescent beside it.

Painted freehand in line and shade, in the manner of marble. One pair. Painted once.

The shoe underneath

Construction
Hand-welted. The sole is stitched to a welt that is sewn to the insole by hand, eight to ten stitches to the inch, in waxed linen. Not glued, not Blake-stitched. A worn sole is cut off and a new one sewn on.
Upper
One panel of full-grain calf from collar to toe, 1.3 to 1.6 mm. No apron seam, no moc stitch, no seam across the top. Tanned in Pakistan.
Colour
Pale through the centre, honey at both ends. The toe and the heel are darkened by hand with a cloth, so no two pairs shade the same.
Waist
Bevelled under the arch: the sole is cut narrow by hand so the shoe shows a curved line along its side.
Heel
22 mm, stacked from layers of leather and lacquered dark teal, with a dark replaceable top piece.
